My Trip to The Big Apple
May. 12th, 2012 10:54 pmA few days ago, I flew out to New York to meet a few friends and go see Dark Shadows at the midnight premiere in IMAX. I'll get to that in a minute.
It was my very first time flying, and my face was glued to the window the entire time. Taking off felt a bit weird, but once the plane leveled off, I was fine. My ears popped a bit, but I had gum with me.
Wednesday my friend Carl and I played tourist. The first thing we did was get on the subway and go the wrong way. We wanted to go to Central Park, which is on 86th Street, and we noticed a stop for 50th street, so we had to turn around. This is after Brooke(the New York friend) told us to remember that the subway runs both ways.
We finally made it to Central Park, then wandered over half the damn place before finally finding what I was looking for-the Alice in Wonderland statue. It had been one of my life goals to see the statue, and I'm happy to say I achieved that goal. It was every bit as cool as I thought it would be.
After, we went to a nice Thai restaurant and I had a mango salad with shrimp, and told the waiter to make it as spicy as they could. I took a bite, and my tongue and lips tingled and tears came to my eyes.
Thursday, Brooke played tour guide and took us around. The first place we went to was a bookstore called The Strand, or as I now consider it-Heaven on Earth. Brooke had told me about it, but I was under the impression that it was an upscale Barnes and Noble type store. It's not. What it is is an old fashioned bookstore-wooden floors, narrow iron bookshelves that reach to the ceiling...if there had been a place to sit, I would have gladly stayed there all day, but I wanted to get a picture of the lions in front of the New York Public library.
The movie was really good.
I loved my trip to New York, and would definitely go back-but I would not want to live there.
