ranguvar33OK, I promised myself that I would be posting more in my Journal, and what better way to do that than to introduce some of the characters I'm going to be writing about in my fantasy novel. First Up, my main character.
Name: Maeve O'Carroll.
Age: At the start of the novel, she is six, and then there is a time skip. The majority of the novel has her as twenty-eight.
Physical Appearance: As a child, she is tall and gangly, with a tendency towards klutziness. She has quite a few scrapes and cuts from falls she has taken, and her hair is constantly in tangles. She is not a beautiful child, but she isn't ugly-she has dark hair and eyes, and sunburns rather easily. She has crooked teeth as a child, and spends most of her time running around getting dirty. As a grownup, she is still a klutz, but can turn it to her advantage in a fight. She has grown into her body, and is rather curvy. She is nearly six feet tall.
Biography: Maeve is a Hunter, a trait that has been passed down by the female bloodline of the O'Carroll family. The family legend says that during the time of King Arthur, Camelot came under the siege of a fierce dragon. The King and Knights were questing for the Grail, and there was no one brave enough to stand up to the monster until a young woman appealed to Merlin for help. He refused her, and she went to Morgan Le Fey. Le Fey agreed, on the condition that the woman give her unborn child to the enchantress. The woman agreed, and with Le Fey's sorcery defeated the dragon. Le Fey raised the woman's child like her own, teaching her the ways of magical combat.
Maeve has been a Hunter since she turned sixteen, and she has a somewhat skewed Code. She will not kill anything that was once or still is human(vampires & werewolves) unless they are a serious threat. However, she has no problem with severely injuring them and letting other people kill them. She also grabs any opportunity to make a buck that she can-honest or not, and is a frequent visitor to supernatural 'Black Markets'. However, she is also a loyal friend, and will fight for those she loves. She has a slight bondage fetish, and tends to become very excited when looking at weapons. She also has a love for adrenalin rushes.
Special Abilities: She discovered at the age of five that she could see the ghosts of people that had died tragically. Sadly, she cannot actually speak to them. She also has the ability to sense emotions and read the surface thoughts of people, and-much to her distress sometimes-supernatural beings. However, the thoughts are not cut and dried. They appear as images and sensations. She knows magic, a skill passed down through her bloodline, and can sense when she's near an area of supernatural activity-she describes it as akin to the feeling of a dentist's drill, only it goes through her whole body.
Weaknesses: Whenever she reads a person's mind, what she sees never goes away. It's always there, lingering in the back of her head. Sometimes she is not sure if what she is thinking is her thoughts or someone else's. Her ability also takes a toll on her physically-she tends to become very exhausted, especially if she is overwhelmed by too many emotions at once. And the stronger the emotion, the more severe her reaction to feeling it. She has mental walls up most of the time, so she can protect herself-but they're not unbreakable.
Basic premise of novel: As I said, the very bare bones can be found in my link above. But basically, mix Buffy with Supernatural, add in a somewhat flawed protagonist, a dash of love, some magic, and use of gratuitous Latin to sound ominous. :P

She can still read minds, and can 'talk' to her husband while he is in wolf form via a crude type of telepathy.
The family legend is just that-a legend. Both Maeve's parents were Hunters.
She is Immune to vampire and werewolf bites.
Everything else is pretty much the same.
