Rough Synopsis of My Novel and Some Character Info

I'm a posting fool tonight. :P

Please bear in mind that this is a very rough summary.

I still haven't thought of a good title, though. :(

In the not too distant future(Next Sunday AD!:P) humans and supernatural creatures live side by side. Werewolves, vampires, and incubae(the three creatures I have so far) hold jobs, live in integrated neighborhoods, and generally get along well enough with us and each other.  But there are some who are not so nice, and the regular police force isn't really equipped to deal with rampaging beasties. That's where my main character comes in. She is a Hunter, which is a highly specialized trade. In Maeve's case, she was born to the job-her parents hunted, as did her grandparents and so on and so forth. Maeve is relatively normal except for three things-she is married to a werewolf, has the ability to see the ghosts of people who died violent deaths, and has the Lugosi-Talbot gene.

The Lugosi-Talbot gene is passed down through the mother and  was discovered four years before the events in my novel. A person with the gene is immune to vampire and werewolf bites, as well as being able to see through an incubus's glamor(the true form of an incubus is really ugly). If a person with the gene is bitten, nothing will happen. By the same token, only a certain percentage of the population can become vampires/werewolves in the first place.

Anyway...the main plot of the novel deals with a series of strange deaths that seem to occur on the 13th of every month. It is soon discovered that each of the victims either worked for or was a supernatural, and each body is found with a piece of paper stuffed in the mouth on which a Bible verse is written. There are also body parts missing-eyes, hearts, etc, and the bodies are placed in a cruciform position. Maeve and Robert investigate, and soon discover that they are in more danger than they think...oh, and there's sex. :P

So, here's a bit of info about how my Creatures work.

Werewolves: There are two types-Bittens and Alphas. Bittens are just what they sound like-they were bitten, and contracted lycanthropy. They live seven times longer than humans, have better hearing, and tend to be more reckless than Alphas.

Alphas are werewolves that were born, and they are the ones that can pass the lycanthropy virus through bite. Alphas can only be killed by pure silver, and can endure great pain, which makes them nigh immortal. Robert is an Alpha, and he is currently 120.

Werewolves can recognize their mates by scent and sight while in wolf form, and like regular wolves, once they mate, it's for life. It's not rare for werewolves to have human mates. They keep their human intelligence and can understand speech while in wolf form, and can 'talk' to their mates via a form of telepathy.

They can change at will, and wolfsbane stops them from changing.

Vampires: Like werewolves, only a certain percentage of the population will become vampires if bitten. Vampires tend to be in positions of power, whereas werewolves prefer jobs that let them get dirty. However, in a subversion of an old cliche I'm getting tired of, the two races are on quite amiable terms. In fact, one of Maeve's greatest sources of info is a vampire. They sleep during the day, and can be killed by stake, silver, or sunlight. They can subsist on both human and animal blood. Vampires are created by draining the victim of blood.

Incubuses/Succubae: Pure demons, who cast a glamor over their victims so they appear to be the most beautiful men/women ever. Their true forms vary, but can be revealed in mirrors or seen by people with Lugosi-Talbot. Most are harmless enough, only giving men/women the best sex they've ever had, but some latch onto people and drain them.

Other: There may be more...

Now for some Human Groups:

Feeders: These are people who, well, allow vampires to feed off them. It's a legitimate and very cushy job, and the Feeder is given every luxury he or she could want. One of my supporting characters is a Feeder for a five hundred year old vampiress.

Immunes: People with Lugosi-Talbot. They make up about 20% of the entire population. Maeve is an Immune.

Stokers: People who are obsessed with vampires to the point where they start to act just like them, including sleeping in coffins and drinking blood.

Chaneys are obsessed with werewolves.

Purists: A terrorist group that wants to exterminate all supernatural creatures, and looks upon those who have vampire/werewolf lovers as abominations.
